Introduction to DISC

The DISC model is a personal development tool designed to improve communication and build stronger relationships.

It describes four styles of behaviour: Dominance; Influence; Steadiness; Compliance.

The Dominance Style

Those who are direct, focused and competitive. This type prefers to lead rather than follow instruction. The style workers are grateful a strong drive, independence and focus on goals.

Their limitations might include, a tendency to control and can appear to have low tolerance and a short temper.

The Influence Style

Those with a high ‘Influence Style’ are enthusiastic, optimistic and energetic. This type uses their high energy levels to involve and motivate the entire team. The strengths of ‘I’ style workers are their persuasiveness, encouragement, friendliness and plentiful ideas.

However, they tend to invest a little too much emotion, have trouble working alone and can be impatient and impulsive.

The Steadiness Style

those with a high ‘Steadiness Style’ are calm, easy-going and cooperative. Think of this type is the anchor of the group, providing stability and reassurance.

‘S’ style workers are planners, they are methodical, great with routines and are team players.

On the other hand, they can be reluctant to voice concern, averse to conflict and change, and tend to be overly accommodating.

The Compliance Style

Those the high ‘Compliance Style’ are conscientious, methodical and are often perfectionists. These types are the more reserved and analytical members of the team.

‘C’ style workers have a strong eye for detail, they are logical problem solvers, and they always strive for quality.

However, they can be overly critical, overanalyse, self-isolate and put accuracy before punctuality.
